Scots Open Season Friday Against Concordia

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College men's basketball travels to Concordia (Mich.) Friday (Nov. 19) to open the 2004 regular season.

The Scots return last year's league-leading scorer, sophomore A.J. Jones (Detroit/Martin Luther King), the first freshman to lead the league in scoring since Mark Veenstra of Calvin in 1974. Veenstra went on to lead the league each of his four year's with the Knights.

Last season, Alma finished with a 3-23 overall record and a 1-11 mark in MIAA action. The Maroon and Cream look to improve in the 2004-05 season. The Scots have just one senior on the roster, Jayme Fazi (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge), and have greatly improved perimeter shooting in the offseason. Head coach Ed Kohtala looks to a mix of youth and experience as many of this season's returners have played since their freshman season.

The Scots and Cardinals tip at 7:30 p.m. in Ann Arbor, with a junior varsity contest scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Alma College’s teacher preparation program was rated “exemplary” in 2007 following a comprehensive review by the Michigan Department of Education.
