Hogan's Sustainable Components

Hogan’s Sustainable Components

The Hogan Center will be Alma College’s first LEED-certified building. Following are the planned sustainability components of the facility:

  • Re-use of existing building with minimal new hardscape

  • Water use reduction measures (waterless urinals, low flow fixtures, etc.)

  • Commissioning of building energy systems

  • Refrigerant management: Project will utilize all CFC refrigerant, which is not harmful to the environment

  • Optimization of energy performance: Building systems are designed to maximize energy performance by operating at 20 percent more efficient than the energy code requires.

  • Construction waste management by diverting demolition and construction debris to recycling centers

  • Use of recycled content in ceiling panels, carpet, rubber floor tiles, vinyl floor tiles, bleacher construction, and sub-floor system in new arena

  • Use of regional materials

  • Use of certified wood with at least 50 percent of the wood products to be certified in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council as well as certificates of ownership from harvesting wood products thru installation.

  • Low emitting materials: Adhesives and sealants, paintings and coatings, and carpeting

  • Controllable systems with occupancy sensors and individual lighting controls, mechanical controls monitored at a centralized computer station

  • Thermal comfort verification
