ALMA QB MACKENZIE MCGRADY NAMED MIAA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 2009

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association named Alma quarterback Mackenzie McGrady, Olivet linebacker Chris Behnke and Hope placekicker Andrew Schofield its Players of the Week in football for the week ending September 20.

McGrady, a senior from Portland (Portland, MI/Portland), earned his second Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season by accounting for nearly 400 yards of total offense and seven of Alma touchdowns in the Scots’ 51-3 rout of Rockford, Ill.

McGrady completed 22 of 40 passes for 331 yards and four touchdowns, and rushed for 68 yards on 14 carries and three more touchdowns. It’s the eighth time in his career McGrady has earned Player of the Week honors.

The MIAA also honored Olivet linebacker Chris Behnke and Hope placekicker Andrew Schofield for their efforts on Saturday.

The Scots travel to Wisconsin River Falls this weekend for the last non-league game of the 2009 season. Kickoff is 2:00 p.m. Eastern time.

The memory and spiritual ideals of the late Bishop Thomas Makarios remain alive in a figurative sculpture that was dedicated in May 2009 near the center of campus. The Bishop, professor of religious studies at Alma for 25 years, was founder of the American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church of India and the first Metropolitan Bishop of Canada, United Kingdom and Europe, and South Africa.
