McGRADY AND COMER NAMED FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Alma College quarterback Mackenzie McGrady Offensive Player of the Week and Scots linebacker Zach Comer the Defensive Player of the Week in football for their efforts in a win over Albion College.

McGrady, a junior from Portland, MI, set an MIAA single-game record for total offense and tied the conference single-game mark for pass completions in the Scots' 34-22 victory over the Britons. McGrady accounted for 576 yards of total offense, breaking the previous record of 555 yards set by Alma's Bill Nietzke in 1996 against Hope.

He completed 43-of-59 passes for 468 yards and five touchdowns, and added 108 yards rushing on 16 carries. McGrady's 43 completions tied Nietzke's single game mark, also set in 1996 against Hope. It's the third Player of the Week honor for McGrady this season (Week 1 and Week 7).

Comer, a senior from Alma, MI, made eight tackles, five of them solo, in Alma's victory over Albion. He had two tackles for loss, a quarterback sack and broke up a pass. It's the second time this season Comer has been MIAA Defensive Player of the Week. He was also honored for his play in Week 8.

Adrian College punter Kevin Allaer was name Special Teams Player of the Week.

Other Alma players who have have been honored with Player of the Week recognition are DB Nick Merlo (Rochester Hills, MI) in Week 3 and KR Corey Wangler (West Branch, MI) in Week 7.

The Scots finish the 2008 season this Saturday when they travel to Hope College to take on the Flying Dutchmen in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
