It's a Shutout! Alma Defeats Wisconsin Lutheran 42-0 As Joe Cline Sets New School Record

MILWUAKEE, Wis. - Josh Brehm continued to lead his Scots through the MIAA season with a 42-0 shut out victory at Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday afternoon. Joe Cline (Ithaca) set a new school record for touchdown receptions in a season as he now has 13. The old record of 12 was held by both Clayton Sims (2004) and Al Goetz (1984).

The last time Alma shut out an opponent was 2004 - when the Scots won the MIAA Championship - against Aurora, which the Scots won 45-0.

The Scots rushed for 115 yards and passed for 302 en route to another stellar day of total offense. Josh Brehm (Ithaca) had 38 passes and 25 completions for 302 yards without an interception. He continues to extend his lead in the NCAA record books for most pass attempts without an interception.

Joe Cline had seven receptions for 128 yards and two touchdowns while Nate Jervey (Harbor Springs) had 6 catches for 62 yards and a touchdown. Cline's 128 yards marks his fourth consecutive 100-yard or more receiving game and his fifth this season.

The Scots opened with a two-play, nine yard drive that ended in a four-yard Kyle Ryan (Reese) rush and a Stephen Lux (Alma) PAT to go ahead 7-0. The Scots scored again to open the second quarter with a 45-yard connection from Brehm to Cline. The 13-0 advantage came when Lux missed the PAT. But Ryan would score again before the end of the half and the Scots added a two point conversion on a Nate Jervey pass on the longest scoring possession of the game for the Scots, holding the ball for 4:32 to hold a 21-0 advantage. Derek Chamberlain (Newberry) scored again before halftime, with 28 seconds left in the game, with a Lux PAT.

Joe Cline scored again on a pass from Brehm in the fourth and Jervey scored his TD with four minutes remaining as Lux converted on each extra point.

Alma held Wisconsin Lutheran ot just 129 yards of total offense on 55 plays despite WLC holding the ball for nearly 35 minutes of the 60 minute game.

Alma returns to action next Saturday against Albion on Community Day and Take A Kid to the Game Day at Bahlke Field.
