Scots Fourth in MIAA Pre-Season Poll; Receiving Votes in Season's First d3football.com Poll

ALMA, Mich. - At yesterday's MIAA Media Day hosted by Adrian College, the MIAA football coaches and media combined in selecting Alma College fourth in the league's annual pre-season coaches poll.

The Scots are coming off a 6-4 year in 2005 and look to improve in 2006. Last season - after winning the MIAA title in 2004 - Alma was tabbed to win the league title. The pre-season poll last picked the eventual league champion correctly in 1999 when Albion was picked to win and finished in a three-way tie for the title with Alma and Hope. The last time an outright winner was accurately tabbed was in 1996 when Albion was the pre-season favorite and won the league title.

In the d3football.com pre-season poll, Mt. Union begins the year as the team to beat after its national championship a season ago. For the full poll, visit d3football.com.

The Scots received eight votes from around the nation and are the top vote-getting team in the MIAA. Adrian is just behind the Scots with seven votes while Albion notched four.

Several Alma opponents appear in the receiving votes category of the poll. Along with Adrian and Albion, non-conference opponent Wittenberg received one vote in the poll while UW-Eau Claire received 27.

The d3football.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country and is published weekly.

Alma begins its season with Cornell College (Iowa) on Sept. 9 in Alma.

Alma College is one 240 institutions nationwide — and one of only four Michigan institutions — selected for inclusion in the Colleges of Distinction Guidebook, which profiles institutions that are consistently recognized for quality teaching, the kinds of experiences available to students, and how well students do after they graduate.
