John Leister is in his 15th season guiding the potent offensive attack affectionately termed the Scot-Gun.

He has led the offense to record-breaking seasons since arriving at Alma, coaching some of the finest quarterbacks in Alma College history. During his tenure he has helped the Scots to three MIAA Championships; 1999, 2002 and 2004. Also head baseball coach for the past nine seasons, Leister led the Scots to the MIAA baseball title in 1999; its first since 1987.

A three-year starter at quarterback for Michigan State University and a 1991 graduate of MSU, Leister played professional football with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL and the Michigan Panthers of the USFL before pitching for the Boston Red Sox.

Leister resides in St. Louis with wife Michelle Olds Leister and four children;  Nicole, Jarrett, Hailey and Alyssa.

 

Alma College’s partnership with the Pine River Superfund Citizen Task Force, an EPA-sanctioned Community Advisory Group (CAG), was selected as a finalist for Michigan’s 2007 Carter Partnership Award. The Task Force is recognized as one of the most influential and active CAGs nationally and as having the largest membership of any CAG in the United States.

Jim Cole '74 enters his 17th season at the helm of the Scots. In 2004, Cole led the Scots to the MIAA title and a berth in the NCAA Division III national playoffs, the second time in three years the Maroon and Cream advanced to the NCAA postseason.

A former All-MIAA and All-District quarterback for the Scots, Cole draws on the championship experiences of playing for the 1970, '71 and '72 MIAA co-champions and coaching the 1988 co-champ's defense.

Cole sports a career mark of 94-60-0, placing him tied in all-time wins at the College with Brooks (94-86-0, 20 seasons).
