1967 & 1968 Championships Reunion

Scots Football Reunion News and Notes #3

Preparations continue to move along as the Sept. 5-6 event approaches. To date, 28 registrations have been received: Don Bache, Mike Barnes, Jeff Blough, Denny Bongard, Coach Cantrell, Jim Ciceri, Chad Creevy, Ken Dood, John Dukes, Roger Frayer, John Fuzak, Hilary Goerge, C.Gray, Jon Hadley, Frank Jeremy, Mark Jones, Jack McNutt, Jim Moore, Jim Powers, Ed Robertson, Don Schelke, Dave Stewart, Coach Stolz, Mike Sweeney, Warren Thompson, Ben Weeks, and Rob Zins. Eight additional teammates have indicated that they will attend but they are not counted until their reservation is received. The list of “maybe’s” is long. Thanks to Coach Klenk and others for many timely and appreciated phone calls. Incidentally, I am guilty of a “senior” moment. My phone number is 989 463 2082. Sorry!

The fall media guide offered a full page tribute as follows: “A Salute to the Champions.” “On September 6th, the Alma College Community will be welcoming back the members of the 1967 and 1968 MIAA Championship Football Teams for the 40th anniversary celebration of their back to back championship seasons. The 2008 Alma College Scots will be opening their season against Bluffton College and Coach Jim Cole will be looking for his 100th win at the helm of the Maroon and Cream.” In addition, the program for the football game on Sept. 6 will have a full page article greeting the champions!

We are designing a large banner (25’ x 4’) to be placed at the southwest corner of Bahlke Field. This will be a perfect backdrop for a team photo, a remembrance of a very special day.

The dinner menu will be the All-American Buffet: Tossed garden salad; carved Roast Beef with gravy and Roasted Chicken; Mashed, Home Fries or Baked Potato; Corn, Green Beans, or Peas and Carrots; Dinner rolls; Strawberry Shortcake AND Apple Pie Bar. Bring your appetites! (Diets invoke a 15 yd. penalty)

Some teammates will be missed. Larry Andrus will be at a meeting with his wife who is an officer for a professional health organization. Mark Byrne sent a letter detailing many positive memories of practice and game sessions. He will be on an Alaska cruise. Chris Clark’s son is being married on that date. Same with Jim Goodrich. Son is being married in Los Angeles. Fred Bateson, Chris Van Sickle and Randy Haut are unable to attend. Mike McDonald also has a long-reserved cruise on the date and sends regrets. Bill Williams has an art show but we have hopes that he will be able to attend. All will be missed.

Look forward to a rousing weekend loaded with nostalgia and good memories.
