1967 & 1968 Championships Reunion

Alma Scots Football Reunion News Note #1

Reservations for the reunion the weekend of September 5-6 have been returning at a trickle pace as plans for the special celebration continue to firm.  You should have received a reunion packet that included a letter, reservation form, housing listing and a list of team members and available e-mail addresses.  Our immediate concern is to contact everyone. The following members have dropped from the college alumni records:    TOM DINES   RICK LEDY   DAN PEACOCK   JOHN STANTON   STEVE STRICKLAND   RANDY VAN SICKLE   DON VIELE   GUY WALSH.  If anyone knows the address, telephone number or e-mail address of any of these missing teammates, please let me or any one of the reunion captains whose names appear below have the information.  Phone numbers and e-mail addresses follow:

Skip Traynor, long-time member of our public relations office, has been digging into the library archives and other resources to develop a souvenir DVD of the magic 1967 and 1968 seasons. We do not have16 or 8 mm. film of the 1967 year, although I have a film of the 1967 pre-season scrimmage.  Can anyone help us???  The DVD will be running in the lobby before the Bluffton game and at the reception.  The intent is to add photos of the reunion week to the DVD and then mail a copy to each member who attends the reunion.

The Corporation for National and Community Service named Alma College to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in both 2008 and 2009 for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth. The Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement.

Coach Profile

Gordon Aldrich

Gordon Aldrich was a late addition to the Alma College Coaching Staff in the summer of 2007. Coach Aldrich has joined the Alma College Family as the Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach.

During his 26 years as a varsity Boy’s and Girl’s Cross Country Coach, Aldrich has won a Girls Open State Championship (1978), a Girls State Championship (1995), two Boy’s State Championships (1994, 1997), and was Runner-up on seven other occasions. During the same time, Aldrich coached teams to 17 conference championships, was nominated for the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Coach of the Year 12 times for cross country, and walked away with the award four times (1994, 1995, 1996, and 1998). He was also named the Boy’s Cross Country National Coach of the Year in 1999 by the National Federation Interscholastic Coaches Association.

Aldrich was also honored with Michigan High School Coaches Association Track Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1998, and has received the Charles Sweeney Michigan Coaches Hall of Fame Track and Field Award.
