SCOTS BASEBALL DROPS GAME TWO AT HOPE 8-7, SPLITS THE DAY'S DOUBLEHEADER

Alma's Baseball team looked for a sweep of a Friday doubleheader against Hope, but came out on the wrong end of a 8-7 score. The two teams will conclude their seasons on Saturday when they play two at Klenk Park in Alma.

CF Bobby Jock concluded a productive day by going three for three in the nightcap and 3B Jeremy Stephens went two for three with two RBI's and two runs scored. SS Dan Gonzalez-Morales added two hits and a run for the Scots as well.

Sam Shipman started on the mound for Alma and went 2 2/3 innings, giving up ten hits and seven runs (two earned) and struck out three. P Justin Sluiter took the loss even though he gave up just one run in 3 2/3 innings. Adam Rezmer pitched to one batter in the bottom of the seventh, when Hope scored the run that gave them the victory.

Alma scored two in the top of the first and Hope responded with two of their own in the bottom of the frame. The Scots led 6-2 until the Flying Dutchmen scored five runs in the bottom of third to take a 7-6 advantage.

The score stayed that way until the Scots scratched out a run in the top of the sixth to even the score. However, Hope was not about to close out their home portion of the 2009 schedule with a loss and came away with win.

Alma was the only college group invited to perform. "It's a huge honor," says faculty director Dave Zerbe. "You can't apply to perform there; they seek you out."
