ALMA BASEBALL DEFEATS HOPE COLLEGE 7-5 ON FRIDAY

The Scots Baseball team traveled to Holland on Friday for a doubleheader versus Hope and came away with a 7-5 victory against the Flying Dutchmen in Game one of the twinbill.

P Corey Brohl earned the victory for the Scots, pitching six innings allowing seven hits and three earned runs, walking and striking out two. Tony Garcia pitched the last inning, and despite giving up two runs, earned his second save of the season.

At the plate, four Scots players notched two hits - RF Nick Townsend, 1B Nate Smith, SS Dan Gonzalez-Morales and CF Bobby Jock. Gonzalez-Morales and Jock each had two RBI's for Alma, while Smith scored three runs in the contest. Townsend added two runs scored as well for the victorious Scots.

The Scots led 3-0 before Hope scored a run in the bottom of the third to make it 3-1. After the Flying Dutchmen made it 3-2 in the fourth, Alma answered with a run of their own for a 4-2 advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth. Hope was persistent and added another tally to make it 4-3 heading into the final inning.

The Scots added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh to go up 7-3 and looked they would coast to the win. However, Hope fought back and scored two of their own in the bottom of the final inning, but Garcia notched a strikeout to close things out.
