BASEBALL TEAM LOSES TO ALBION 4-3 IN FIRST GAME OF DOUBLEHEADER

The Scots’ Baseball team hosted a doubleheader with Albion College on Saturday at Klenk Park, and dropped the opener by a score of 4-3, in a game that saw Alma drop to 0-5 in the MIAA and 5-8 overall. Albion improved to 4-3 in the league and and 8-10 on the 2009 season.

Albion jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, as the Britons had five hits in the frame, including a two-run homer by 1B Sam Prentice. The Scots responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and cut the lead to 3-2. Albion increased their lead to 4-2 in the top of the seventh, when 3B John Gignac scored on a single by C Cameron Mueller.

The Scots made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning, as LF Nick Townsend and RF Bobby Jock singled to lead off the frame. After SS Dan Gonzalez-Morales bunted the runners over, Alma had the winning run in scoring position. C Jay Sackett struck out, but Townsend scored on a balk by Albion P Ryan Gunderson, to bring the Scots to within one run at 4-3.

However, the win was not to be, as CF Bobby Chasney lined out to center for the third out and the Scots walked off the field on the losing end of a very entertaining MIAA Baseball game.
