SCOTS BASEBALL CLOSES OUT HOME-OPENER DOUBLEHEADER ON A HIGH NOTE WITH A WIN OF 5 INNING, 10-0 VICTORY.

The Alma Scots Baseball team finished off a doubleheader sweep of Goshen College on Saturday, when they won a 10-0 five-inning decision in the nightcap. Alma is now 4-3 on the season, as the Scots pounded out 13 hits in the win and did not give up one single hit against Goshen.

Scoreless going into the bottom of the third inning, Alma scored five runs in the bottom of the frame and scored one in the fourth and four in the fifth for the 10-run victory. 2B Adam Carrick had two hits and three runs batted in, while DH Joe Yourchock also contributed two hits and three RBI’s on the afternoon, while 2B Adam Rezmer had two RBI’s.

P Cory Brohl threw fourth shutout and hitless innings, with four strikeouts, while P John Filmore finished off the fifth inning with a perfect inning of his own. The Scots will are off until Wednesday, when they host Aquinas in a doubleheader at Klenk Park.

The Alma College Percussion Ensemble performed at the prestigious Centrum Jazz Festival, an international festival in Port Townsend, Wash., in July 2007. Alma was the only college group invited to perform. "It's a huge honor," says faculty director Dave Zerbe. "You can't apply to perform there; they seek you out."

Judd Folske

Judd Folske

Judd Folske is entering his first year as Alma College Head Baseball Coach in the 2007-2008 season after spending two years as an assistant coach with the program. Coach Folske joined the Maroon and Cream in the fall of 2005 after stops at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University, and stints at Div. II schools Saginaw Valley State University and Ferris State University. He also serves the athletic department as assistant athletic director.

While head coach of the CMU Chippewas, Folske posted a 131-98 mark. In 2000, he finished in a tie for first in the MAC conference with a record of 41-17 (18-8). Folske retired after the 2003 season at CMU, and went to work as an assistant at SVSU, where he worked in that capacity for two seasons.
