BASEBALL: Scots Held to One Run in Two Losses to Hope
May 3, 2008
Alma, Mich.- The Alma College Baseball Team (10-24, 6-16) continued to struggle from the plate as they only scored one run in two losses to Hope College (12-22, 10-12) today in Holland, Mich.
Wade Slavik (Ashley/Fulton-Middleton) got the start on the mound for the Scots in game one and gave up six runs on eight hits in three and a third innings. Justin Sluiter (McBain) came in to finish the game and pitched excellent for the Maroon and Cream, shutting the Dutchmen out for the final two and a third.
Alma couldn't get anything going offensively and managed only two hits and three base runners in the entire first game and ended up falling by the score of 6-0.
Game two was more of the same for the Scots as they were only able to muster one run on seven hits on their way to the 12-1 loss.
John Fillmore (Midland) had one of his better outings of the year as he pitched five strong innings for the Scots and only gave up four runs on six hits. However, with the lack of run support and the bullpen giving up eight runs in the sixth, Fillmore fell to 0-6 on the year.
Adam Carrick (Essexeville/Jackson C.C.), Jeremy Stephens (Maple Rapids/Fulton-Middleton), and Bobby Jock (Wales/Memphis) each accounted for two of the sevenĀ Alma hits in the game. Nick Townsend (Saint Clair Shores/DeLaSalle) went one for three and accounted for AC's only RBI of the game.
The Scots will look to rebound as they will host the Dutch on Monday in the make-up games of Friday.
