BASEBALL: Scots Get 5-2 Win at 5/3 Park

April 29, 2008

After a very tough weekend of play, the Alma College Baseball Team (10-22, 6-14) rebounded in a big way with a 5-2 win over Aquinas College (19-29) at 5/3 Park in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The game was a pitcher's dual through five as neither team could get anything going offensively and the score remained 0-0. Each team broke through with a run in the sixth and the score remained 1-1 going into the top of the ninth. In the ninth, the Scots manufactured four runs in the top of the inning and fought off a Saints rally in the bottom half, to take home the 5-2 win.

Joe Thiry (Grand Rapids/Christian) got the start and threw six strong innings for the Maroon and Cream, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out two. Wade Slavik (Ashley/Fulton-Middleton) came in relief and pitched the final three innings, giving up three hits and one unearned run on the way to his third win of the season.

Hits were few and far between in this game, but Jeremy Stephens (Maple Rapids/Fulton-Middleton) had a solid day at the plate, going two for three with two runs scored. Joe Yourchock (Royal Oak) went two for four with an RBI and Adam Carrick (Essexeville/Jackson C.C.) and Adam Rezmer (Bay City/John Glenn) each added a hit and an RBI for the Scots.

Box Score

The Scots will next take the field as they host Hope College this Friday for a double header starting at 2:00 p.m.
