BASEBALL: Ups and Downs Continue for Scots in Another Split
April 20, 2008
Alma, Mi.- For the second time in three days the Alma College Baseball Team (8-15, 5-8) shared the diamond with Kalamazoo College (10-10, 6-10) and for the second time came away with a split that saw the Scots put up big numbers in one game and struggle from the plate in the other.
In reverse order from Friday's action, the first game of today's twin billing saw a Maroon and Cream offensive explosion as they put up 15 runs on their way to the win.
Matt Gorman (Gladwin) got the start for the Scots on the mound and after pitching over 25 innings received his first decision of the year, moving to 1-0. Gorman scattered four hits and three earned while striking out five in five innings pitched. Scott Ribith (Mt. Pleasant) came in and threw two shutout innings of relief to pick up the save.
From the dish, Bobby Chasney (Warren/Cousino) and Ray Foley (New Hudson/South Lyon) both posted perfect games as Chasney went 3-3 with three runs scored and Folew went 2-2 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Joe Yourchock (Royal Oak) added two hits in three at bats while knocking in four runs and scoring another on his own in the win.
The Scots may have been better off to save some of the hits from the first game for the second as they managed to get only six hits and one run in the 11-1 loss in game two.
John Fillmore (Midland) picked up the loss for the Scots but battled through five and a third, giving up only two earned on eight hits.
Not a single Alma College player recorded a multi-hit game in the night cap and the only run batted in came off the bat of junior Adam Carrick (Essexeville/Jackson C.C.) who went one for three while flashing some good leather at the shortstop position.
The Scots will take the field again on Tuesday, April 2nd, as they will face off against Northwood University at Dow Diamond followed by the pro game. Check back for more information.
