BASEBALL: Scots Pick Up Split at Kzoo, Score 21 in Second Game
April 18, 2008
The Alma College Baseball Team (7-14, 4-7) made the trip to Kalamazoo College (9-9, 5-9) today and looked like two different teams as they dropped the first 8-0 and won the second 21-10.
Game one was ugly for the Scots as they couldn't get the bats going and made several erros in the fifth inning that allowed the Hornets to score six runs and take the commanding lead.
Joe Thiry (Grand Rapids/Christian) got the loss on the mound for the Scots, giving up eight runs on nine hits in four and a third innings.
From the plate, Alma only notched five hits the entire game, two of which came off the bat of Ray Foley (New Hudson/South Lyon) who went two for three in the game.
The lack of hitting in the first game did not bleed into the second as the Maroon and Cream pelted the Hornets with 21 runs on 19 hits on their way to the blow out win.
The runs came early and often with the two biggest innings being the first where they put up six and the six where they put up seven.
Dan Gonzalez-Morales (Lansing/Eastern) had a monster game going four for six with six RBI's and three runs scored. Joe Yourchock (Royal Oak) and Bobby Jock (Wales/Memphis) each went three for four with two RBI's and two runs scored while Nick Townsend (Saint Clair Shores/DeLaSalle) went two for four with three RBI's and two runs.
Wade Slavik (Ashley/Fulton-Middleton) picked up the win for the Scots to improve to 2-4 on the season. Slavik went four innings and gave up nine runs on nine hits while striking out four.
Games three and four between these two teams will be played at Klenk Park on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start time.
