BASEBALL: Alma Falls to Olivet in Game One, Second Game Suspended
April 10, 2008
Alma, Mi.- The Alma College Baseball Team (6-13, 3-6) continued to have bad luck playing at Klenk Park as cold, rainy, and windy weather made play to day miserable as they fell to the Comets of Olivet (9-9, 7-2) by the score of 10-4 and had the second half of the double header rained out.
The Scots jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after grabbing a pair in the bottom half of the first inning but as the weather got worse, their defense became sloppier and their bats got colder and the Comets rallied off nine unanswered runs before the Scots added two more in the bottom of the seventh on their way to the MIAA loss.
Wade Slavik (Ashley/Fulton-Middleton) got the loss on the mound for the Scots to fall to 1-4 on the season. His record in no way reflects how well he has pitched for the Scots this season and tonight he gave up nine hits and ten runs, only five of which were earned, in a four and a third innings pitched.
Ray Foley (New Hudson/South Lyon) led the way for the Maroon and Cream from the plate going three for four with three RBI's and a run scored. Jeremy Stephens (Maple Rapids/Fulton-Middleton) went two for four in the game and freshman Bobby Chasney (Warren/Cousino) continued to impress with a two for four game of his own while scoring two runs.
The second half of the twin billing was postponed after the first pitch. Because the game was started, technically, all three of the remaining games between the Scots and Comets can be played on the same date. The teams plan to play all three on Saturday April 12 on the campus of Olivet College, if weather allows.
