BASEBALL: Calvin Completes Sweep Over Scots

Alma, Mi.- The young Alma College Baseball Team (4-12, 3-5) dropped the third and fourth game of the season series against Calvin College (14-1, 6-0) but showed that they are going to be a tough team to beat in the MIAA this season as they played the league leader tough all series.

The Scots jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first game today, the third game of the series, but watched the lead slip away in the final two innings to fall by the score of 6-5.

Senior pitcher Matt Gorman (Gladwin) threw well for the Maroon and Cream today giving up just three earned in five and a third while striking out one in his third straight no decision. Corey Brohl (Richmond) came in in relief and gave up the go ahead run to be credited with the loss.

Bobby Jock (Wales/Memphis) continued with his hot bat today, going four for five with two RBI's and a run scored inlcuding a monster homerun down the right field line. Jeremy Stephens (Maple Rapids/Fulton-Middleton) and Joe Yourchock (Royal Oak) both added two hits, an RBI and a run scored while Adam Carrick (Essexville/Jackson C.C.) went one for three with a run scored and a run batted in.

The night cap today and the final game of the season series was all Calvin as they got up early and continued to pile up the runs including scoring six in the fourth on their way to the 9-1 win.

John Fillmore (Midland) got the loss on the mound for the Maroon and Cream, giving up seven runs on nine hits in three and a third. With the loss he falls to 0-3 on the season.

From the dish, Stephens added two more hits and catcher Tyler Periard (Burch Run) knocked in the Scots only run.

The Scots turn around and will host Finlandia University for another pair tomorrow at Klenk Park with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

Judd Folske

Judd Folske

Judd Folske is entering his first year as Alma College Head Baseball Coach in the 2007-2008 season after spending two years as an assistant coach with the program. Coach Folske joined the Maroon and Cream in the fall of 2005 after stops at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University, and stints at Div. II schools Saginaw Valley State University and Ferris State University. He also serves the athletic department as assistant athletic director.

While head coach of the CMU Chippewas, Folske posted a 131-98 mark. In 2000, he finished in a tie for first in the MAC conference with a record of 41-17 (18-8). Folske retired after the 2003 season at CMU, and went to work as an assistant at SVSU, where he worked in that capacity for two seasons.
