BASEBALL: Missed Opportunities Cost Scots
April 2, 2008
The Scots (4-10, 3-3) took to the road to travel to Calvin College (12-1, 4-0) to play a double header against the conference leader and found themselves with chances to win both games but were unable to get hits at key times as they left 15 runners on base on their way to dropping the pair.
In the opener, Calvin got on the board early and often scoring six runs in the first two innings against Alma starter Joe Thiry (Grand Rapids/Christian). Thiry found his groove and held the Knights to only one run in their final three at bats but couldn't get the run support he needed to pick up the win. Thiry finished with six strikeouts while allowing nine hits and seven runs in a six inning complete game loss.
Offensively, the Scots had multiple runners on base on several occassions but were unable to capitalize. Freshman Bobby Chasney (Warren/Cousino) had a solid game, going two for three with an RBI and a run scored.

In the night cap, the Maroon and Cream got the second straight gem from Wade Slavik (Ashley/Fulton-Middleton) who scattered four hits and one run in a complete game performance. Again, a lack of run support dealt him his third loss of the season.
The Scots left the bases loaded in the fifth inning and stranded two in the seventh on their way to the shutout loss. Chasney repeated his first game performance with another two for three game while Dan Gonzalez-Morales (Lansing/Eastern) took advantage of a start at second base with a three for three day from the dish.
The Scots will look to exact their revenge on Saturday as they will host the Knights for a pair with a 1 p.m. start time.
