BASEBALL: Scots Split Against Albion

Mar. 29, 2008

The first game of today's double header against the Albion College Britons (3-11, 2-2) saw the Scots (2-8, 1-1)  struggle from the dish and give up a seven run third inning that they were never able to recover from.

Joe Thiry (Grand Rapids/Christian) pitched well for two innings but struggled in the third and gave up seven runs before it was all said and done, picking up the loss for the Scots. Justin Sluiter (McBain) closed the game out for Alma and threw well, scattering six hits over three and two thirds and striking out three.

The only two hits of the game for the Scots came off the bats of Jeremy Stephens (Maple Rapids/Fulton-Middleton) and Tyler Periard (Birch Run) who also added an RBI and run scored between the two.

The second game was a completely different story as the Scots campe out swinging, jumping ahead 1-0 in the second before adding four more in the behind a three run sixth and a one run seventh to take the five to one win.

Corey Brohl (Richmond) came in in relief and closed out the game, giving up three hits while striking out two in two innings pitched.

Stephens was the spark plug offensively in the second game, going two for three with two RBI's and two runs scored. Adam Carrick (Essexeville/Jackson C.C.) played an outstanding game on defense and also showed up at the plate with a two for four performance and an RBI an run scored.
