BASEBALL: Scots Get a Win on the Board

The Alma College Baseball Team got their first win of the year and under new Head Coach Judd Folske wtih a 10-2 pounding over the College of Staten Island.

Joe Thiry (Grand Rapids/Christian) got the start on the mound for the Scots and threw six innings, scattering six hits, while striking out five and giving up one run. Wade Slavik (Ashley/Fulton-Middleton) came in in the seventh and finished the game out, giving up one run over three innings.

Offensively, Ray Foley (New Hudson/South Lyon) has continued to shine, going 3-5 with a homerun and and a trio of runs scored and RBI's. Jeremy Stephens (Maple Rapids/Fulton-Middleton) went two for four, Adam Carrick (Essexeville/Jackson C.C.) went one for four and Tyler Periard (Birch Run) played solid behind the plate and went 2-4  with a run scored and an RBI in the game.

The Scots return to action tomorrow morning with a 10 a.m. start against Manchester College.

 

Alma is one of seven Michigan colleges and universities to hold membership in the Omicron Delta Kappa Society, the national leadership society that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character. The College also has 19 other national departmental honor societies.

Judd Folske

Judd Folske

Judd Folske is entering his first year as Alma College Head Baseball Coach in the 2007-2008 season after spending two years as an assistant coach with the program. Coach Folske joined the Maroon and Cream in the fall of 2005 after stops at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University, and stints at Div. II schools Saginaw Valley State University and Ferris State University. He also serves the athletic department as assistant athletic director.

While head coach of the CMU Chippewas, Folske posted a 131-98 mark. In 2000, he finished in a tie for first in the MAC conference with a record of 41-17 (18-8). Folske retired after the 2003 season at CMU, and went to work as an assistant at SVSU, where he worked in that capacity for two seasons.
