BASEBALL: Scots Come Up Just Short, Fall to Rivier 2-1

Feb. 26, 2008

In a dramatic change of pace from their first two games that saw a total of 54 runs scored, the Scots fell by the score of 2-1 to Rivier College.

The Scots got on the board behind an RBI double by freshman Bobby Chasney (Warren/Cousino) that pushed Tyler Periard (Birch Run) across the plate to tie the score at one. The tie wasn't broken until the bottom of the eighth when Rivier blooped in the winning run.

Travis Maxey (Novi/Walled Lake) went 2-4 in the game and freshman Justin Sluiter (McBain) pitched four scoreless innings for the Scots.

The Maroon and Cream will take the field for a rematch against Concordia University tomorrow. Concordia won their match-up yesterday by the score of 18-6.

The Alma College Percussion Ensemble performed at the prestigious Centrum Jazz Festival, an international festival in Port Townsend, Wash., in July 2007. Alma was the only college group invited to perform. “It’s a huge honor,” says faculty director Dave Zerbe. “You can’t apply to perform there; they seek you out.”
