BASEBALL: Scots Split with Kzoo

Alma, Mi.- Klenk Park saw another competitive double header today as the Scots battled Kalamazoo College to a split in MIAA action.

A three run inning in the third and another in the fourth propelled Kzoo past the Scots in the first game. Sophomore John Fillmore (Midland) started the game on the mound for the Scots and got roughed up giving up six runs on eight hits in three and two thirds. Senior Tom Montgomery (Decatur, Ind./Big Rapids) and freshman Dan Gozalez-Morales patched together the rest of the game in relief in the 8-3 loss.

Senior OF Dan Merian (Milford) had the only multi-hit game for the Scots as he went three for three with a run scored. Senior Josh Reece (Norton Shores/Muskegon Mona Shores), sophomore Jeremy Stephens (Maple Rapids/Fulton-Middleton), and freshman LukeĀ Grover (Vestaburg) each knocked in a run for the Scots.

The Scots got the pitching they needed in the second half of the double header as junior Matt Gorman (Gladwin) got the complete game win scattering eight hits and giving up four runs while striking out three.

Alma's offense came through late as they scored six runs in the fifth and six to rally back from a 4-0 hole. Dan Merian's great day continued as he went 2-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Sophomore Bobby Jock (Whales/Memphis) also went two for four with a run scored and two RBIs. Dan Gonzalez-Morales also added a hit, a run, and a run batted in for the Scots.

The Scots travel to Indiana tomorrow to make up a couple against Tri-State. The game i scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.

Spring Term at Alma is a one-month immersion on a single academic topic that offers learning experiences not typically available during the more traditional 15-week fall and winter terms. For example, during Spring Term ‘07 students explored important cultural sites in China, worked to restore a Jewish Holocaust cemetery in Poland, analyzed ethic politics in Scotland, and studied medieval literature in London.

Judd Folske

Judd Folske

Judd Folske is entering his first year as Alma College Head Baseball Coach in the 2007-2008 season after spending two years as an assistant coach with the program. Coach Folske joined the Maroon and Cream in the fall of 2005 after stops at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University, and stints at Div. II schools Saginaw Valley State University and Ferris State University. He also serves the athletic department as assistant athletic director.

While head coach of the CMU Chippewas, Folske posted a 131-98 mark. In 2000, he finished in a tie for first in the MAC conference with a record of 41-17 (18-8). Folske retired after the 2003 season at CMU, and went to work as an assistant at SVSU, where he worked in that capacity for two seasons.
