BASEBALL: Scots Lose Two to Adrian
SCOTS LOSE TWO TO ADRIAN
After splitting the first two on Friday, the Scots travelled to Adrian this afternoon in hopes of winning the four game weekend series. Alma showed that they could play with the MIAA co-leader, but one rough inning in each game proved to be the difference.
The Scots started the first game playing a little small ball asĀ Senior Dan Merian (Milford) doubled to left center, was bunted to third by junior Ray Foley (New Hudson/South Lyon), and scored on a grounder to the left sideĀ of the infield off the bat of his high school teammate, senior Mike Slesinski.
Alma added three more in the top of the third behind a two run double by Slesinski and an RBI single from freshman Mike McAlpin (Mt. Pleasant).
Sophomore John Fillmore (Midland) started the game with three perfect innings on the mound for the Scots. Adrian first did damage in the fourth inning when they strong together three hits and a hit batter to score three runs. After shutting Adrian down in the fifth and sixth innings, Fillmore dug in with a 4-3 lead and in perfect position to come away with the win. However; two hits, three errors, and two unearned runs later, the Scots walked away thinking about what could have been and with the loss.
The theme of one bad inning continued in the second game of the double header as a four error, four hit, four run, bottom of the fourth was the difference in the 6-3 loss.
Junior Matt Gorman (Gladwin) got the loss for the Scots as he gave up four earned on seven hits in three and two thirds. Senior Tom Montgomery (Decatur, Ind./Big Rapids) finished the game four the Scots surrendering one run on two hits in two and one third innings pitched.
Mike Slesinski went one for three in the game with an RBI and Ray Foley scored a run while going two for two at the plate. Sophomore shortstop Jeremy Stephens (Maple Rapids/Fulton-Middleton) also added an RBI and a run scored in the losing effort.
The Scots will welcome Olivet to Klenk Park this Tuesday April 24 for a triple header which will include the completion of the suspended game on April 13. The games are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
