Wednesday Baseball Double Header at Northwood Cancelled; Re-Scheduled For April 10 at 4 p.m.

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College baseball was set to take on Northwood University in a double-header Wednesday in Midland, Mich., but due to adverse weather conditions, the game has been rescheduled for April 10 at 4 p.m. Instead of a double-header, the Scots will play one nine-inning game against the Timberwolves in Midland.

Alma has been on hiatus since returning from its spring break trip and holds a 1-5 record entering the northern portion of its schedule.

Early in the season, junior Ray Foley (New Hudson/South Lyon) leads the Scots with a batting average of .412, going 7-for-17 with three doubles and a triple. Dan Merian (Milford) has started all six games for the Maroon and Cream, going 10-for-25 scoring five runs, notching four RBI and a double. He also leads the team with four stolen bases.

The pitching staff has been led by John Fillmore (Midland) who has thrown 14.1 innings and has a 7.53 ERA. Joe Thiry (Grand Rapids/G.R. Christian) has started two games and thrown 11 innings. Only Wade Slavik (Ashley/Fulton-Middleton) has picked up a win on the mound, throwing seven innings and allowing three earned runs whil striking out five to put up a 3.86 ERA.

On the spring break swing in Port Charlotte, Fla., the Scots opened with a 9-0 loss to Hanover with Thiry on the mound before picking up the lone win of the trip, an 8-5 victory against Ohio Northern with Slavik getting the win. The Scots hit the skids with a double-header loss to St. Johns 5-3 and 5-0, respectively, with Matt Gorman (Gladwin) and Fillmore taking the losses.

Alma then lost 17-7 to York College and 12-6 to Catholic to end the trip with a 1-5 record.

The Scots host Hope College in the first of the MIAA home-and-home series and then match up with Calvin before taking on SVSU in non-conference action.

Thirty-four percent of Alma students participate in intercollegiate athletics. Alma College competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest existing athletic conference in the nation.
