Doubleheader Losses Drop Scots to 9-11 in MIAA

ADRIAN, Mich. - Alma College baseball dropped back-to-back games to Adrian in Sunday afternoon doubleheader action, 10-4 and 8-3. The Scots are now 13-17 on the season and 9-11 in MIAA games.

Game one saw freshman Joe Thiry make the start on the mound, going five innings and scattering eight hits and allowing eight runs - three earned - while striking out two. Tom Montgomery entered the game for the final three outs, allowing two runs on two hits.

Pat Ott led the Scots, going 2-for-4 with a run while Pat McGuire knocked in two runs, going 1-for-3 at the plate.

In game two Matt Gorman made the start, going 5.1 innings and allowing five earned runs on seven hits. Brandon Shorter entered the game in relief, getting the final two outs and allowing three runs.

The Scots recorded just four hits in the game as Ray Ribitch, Ott, McGuire and Mike Zuehlke picked up one hit each.

The Maroon and Cream return to action when they host Albion Thursday (Apr. 27) at 2 p.m.

 

Thirty-four percent of Alma students participate in intercollegiate athletics. Alma College competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest existing athletic conference in the nation.

Judd Folske

Judd Folske

Judd Folske is entering his first year as Alma College Head Baseball Coach in the 2007-2008 season after spending two years as an assistant coach with the program. Coach Folske joined the Maroon and Cream in the fall of 2005 after stops at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University, and stints at Div. II schools Saginaw Valley State University and Ferris State University. He also serves the athletic department as assistant athletic director.

While head coach of the CMU Chippewas, Folske posted a 131-98 mark. In 2000, he finished in a tie for first in the MAC conference with a record of 41-17 (18-8). Folske retired after the 2003 season at CMU, and went to work as an assistant at SVSU, where he worked in that capacity for two seasons.
