ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College baseball team lost their second consecutive one-run affair Monday, in an 11-10 loss to Hope College. Playing their fourth game in three days the weary Scots called on senior infielder Adam Jerry (St. Louis) to make a spot start and Jerry did what was asked of him. Jerry pitched eight strong innings and left the game after allowing the leadoff man to reach in the top of the eigth and the Scots clinging to a two run lead. Staff ace Brandon Teenier (Holly) was called in to close out the game. Teenier would allow the inherited runner to score as well as two additional runs (both unearned) to give the Dutchmen an 11-10 margin heading to the bottom of the inning.
The Scots would go down in order in the bottom of the ninth, and never mounted a serious threat.
For the game, Jerry went eight-plus innings allowing nine runs on 12 hits, striking out four and walking two.
The Scots achieved season highs in both runs and hits, but could not keep the Hope offense in check. Pat Ott (East Lansing) would go 3-for-5 with two runs scored. His batting average on the season now stands at .370. Pete Ott (East Lansing) had two hits on the day and scored a run as well. Mike Zuehlke (Mt. Pleasant) led off the third inning with a solo homerun to left, marking the second time this season that the Scots homered off of the Dutch.
The Scots now stand at 3-5 (3-3 MIAA). Alma travels to Saginaw on Wednesday April 6 to take on SVSU in a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
