Scots Lose to Olivet in First of Three Games

The Alma College baseball team (3-4 MIAA, 5-12 overall) dropped a nine- inning contest 15-6 Friday, April 9, to the Olivet Comets (2-2 in conference 10-13 overall) at Klenk Park. The game was the first of a three- game series followed by a double header Saturday.

The Comets came out of the box fast scoring seven runs in their first three at bats. The young Scots showed heart as they battled hard the entire game.

Pete Ott, East Lansing sophomore, started the game for the Scots and pitched five and a third innings giving up nine runs on 11 hits and striking out one. Sophomore Will Eubank, Lansing (Everett), closed the game out for the Scots on the mound and gave up five runs on six hits and struck out three.

Ray Ribitch, Mt. Pleasant sophomore, went 1-3 from the plate scoring two runs and stealing two bases. Ribitch was two steals away from breaking the Alma College single-season stolen base record and four away from the career steal record. Senior Jim Wegener, St. Charles (Hemlock), went 2-5 from the plate and knocked in two runs. Clare sophomore Pat McGuire went 1-4 with two RBI’s and a run scored in the game.

Alma College’s teacher preparation program was rated “exemplary” in 2007 following a comprehensive review by the Michigan Department of Education.
