MIAA Preseason Basketball Polls out today

Calvin, Hope installed as preseason co-favorites in MIAA men’sbasketball race; Hope picked to repeat as women’s champs

 

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – 2009 MIAA champion Calvin and tournament champion Hope have been installed as preseason co-favorites in the 2009-10 MIAA men's basketball race, while defending champion Hope is the preseason selection to repeat as women's basketball champions. Calvin and Hope each received four votes in the annual preseason men's poll released Thursday, while the Flying Dutch picked up six first place votes in the women's poll.

MIAA teams will begin nonconference play in mid-November, with women's conference play to begin Dec. 2 as Albion visits Adrian, and men's play beginning Jan. 6, 2010 with a full slate of four season openers.


 

Alma College's partnership with the Pine River Superfund Citizen Task Force, an EPA-sanctioned Community Advisory Group (CAG), received the 2008 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award for Campus-Community Collaboration, sponsored by Michigan Campus Compact. The Task Force is recognized as one of the most influential and active CAGs nationally and as having the largest membership of any CAG in the United States.

Chris Hamstra

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans.”
