ALMA, Mich.
- Long-time Alma College mascot "Scotty" wants to clear the air - he is not going anywhere.

"I read some postings on Facebook.com recently and was disturbed to see rumors that I was leaving the Maroon and Cream in favor of a pinecone," said the dapper Scotsman. "I have been with Alma College for years and have every intention of staying right here."

Alma College Director of Athletics Ellen Curtis is relieved to know Scotty intends to stay at Alma College. “Scotty has been an icon for us for so many years that it’s hard to remember when he wasn’t,” said Curtis.

In exciting athletic department news, a new graphic identity is in store for the Scots with the launch of a new logo set for public debut on October 21. The athletic-specific logo will debut one year after the College unveiled its official logo and tagline.

The Alma College athletics graphic identity update will be a first for the Scots in recent history and comes after an evaluation of athletic department uniforms and team gear revealed Alma Athletics does not use a consistent logo. In the hope of becoming more readily identifiable in the state – other ‘A’ schools in Michigan include Albion, Adrian and Aquinas – Alma Athletics is thrilled to unveil its new logo on Oct. 21.

“I haven’t seen the logo yet – I’m thrilled to see the new logo along with the rest of the crowd on Take a Kid to the Game Day at Bahlke Field on October 21,” said Scotty. “In the meantime, I’ll be on the sidelines throughout the year, cheering on the Scots.”

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team claimed its eighth consecutive regional championship at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in March 2008. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principals of market economics through outreach projects in their communities.
