What They Say About Brehm

What They're Saying About Josh Brehm

Quotes from faculty, students, staff and competitors regarding Josh Brehm.

"It is difficult to fullly capture the talent, dedication, and quiet leadership of this outstanding young man. Josh cares deeply about others and routinely reaches out in volunteer service. He led a fundraising initiative to preserve the memory of a fellow player who was killed and offers service for a number of programs with children. I have no doubt that Josh Brehm is one of the very elite group of athletes who give NCAA Division III football its fine reputation and represent our institutions so very well."

Dr. Saundra J. Tracy
President
Alma College

"Josh Brehm is the finest player I have coached in 32 years. He was an impact player, and person, in our program from the day he arrived. He led our football team from wire-to-wire in the weight room, on the field, in the film room and the classroom. Josh raised the bar in all areas.

"Josh's self-discipline, work ethic and humble disposition are paramount in his make-up. His teammates were impressed with his desire to be the best and followed his lead. Josh has had a tremendous amount of responsibility on the field. Coach Leister gave him a great deal of flexibility with our system to check players, create opportunities and even in the design of our offense. He is a student of the game and would be a tremendous asset to a team at the professional football level, if he chooses that direction."

Jim Cole '74
Head Football Coach
Alma College

"He is a special quarterback. In my 12 years involved in Division III football, both as a player and a coach, I've never seen any quarterback dominate the game better than Josh Brehm. Josh is simply the best quarterback we've faced here at Adrian College in a long-time. Not only is Josh a great player, he is a class act and great leader for Alma College and the MIAA. "

Aaron Klotz
Adrian College Football
Assistant Head Coach
Defensive Coordinator

"Josh is literally the first player in the locker room during the season and the last one to leave. He also spends more time preparing himself in the weight room and in the film room than anyone I have ever met. His hard work and determination make him easy to follow. All of us on the offensive side of the ball would follow Josh through the gates of hell if he asked us to. It is no surprise to me or my teammates that he is a 2006 Gagliardi Trophy Winner."

Tyler Wellman '08
Offensive Lineman
Alma College

"Josh is the type of young man a coach dreams about working with. He is the embodiment of all the cliche's we as coaches use to motivate our players. He was never out-worked on the field, in the weight room, in film study or in the classroom. In our community, he is a role model for young and old alike. Josh has made me a better coach and person. He also provided an outstanding role model for my own children. For all these things, I consider myself extremely fortunate."

John Leister
Offensive Coordinator, Athletic Director
Alma College

"I hadn't intended my advanced personality class in the spring of 2004 to be as difficult as it was, but we used primary source readings, journal articles. At the end, I looked at what I had made them read and realized I had taught a graduate level course without intending to. Josh was a sophomore at that point and he always came to class prepared, a typical reticent who didn't really draw attention to himself. But when the going got tough, he was the one who would always step up or add something to the discussion that really showed his preparation for what was going on."

Dr. Marc Setterlund
Associate Professor of Psychology
Alma College

"In athletics, we find ourselves saying frequently 'There will never be another - say - Josh Brehm.' Or 'How will we ever replace ...?' The thing about Alma - and its athletics - is that we attract students who have the potential not to be the next Josh Brehm, but to become themselves while being a Scot. It is students like Josh that make me work and my co-workers coach. Players like Josh come and go with the seasons on different teams around the nation, at every level of play, but it is STUDENT-athlete's like him that make Alma unique."

Lindsay Carpenter '02
Sport Marketing Manager
Alma College

"I have had the pleasure of playing alongside Josh for four years and it has been just that, a pleasure. His work ethic and drive are infectious. He is a consummate teammate and leader. I would do anything Josh asked of me. His preparation is incredibly thorough and Josh went into every game or practice having spent more time in film than everybody else combined. Aside from being an outstanding athlete, Josh is a great person as well and will carry on the tradition of past Gagliardi winners very well."

Nate Jervey '06
Wide Receiver
Alma College

"I have had the opportunity to work with Josh in a number of business classes in his four years at Alma College. Josh is an amazing student.  He is by far one of the most intelligent, organized, and creative people I have ever had the opportunity to have in my classes. Josh is a natural born leader who always excels as a contributing member of any group he is in.  He is a great listener, relates well to multiple types of personalities and perspectives, and works diligently toward meeting deadlines.  Highly motivated, Josh excels at taking responsibility for projects and completing them on time.

"While Josh's athletic accomplishments have been significant he is also clearly a young man who excels in the classroom, adding valuable input in every class discussion, broadening the learning experience for his peers."

Ron Lemmon
Assistant Professor of Business Administration
