“I really appreciate being part of the music department at Alma,” he says. “From big performances to small and ensemble performances to solo ones, each opportunity has been meaningful to me.”

When Sprague began playing the drums in 7th grade, he realized that his passion for music was more than a hobby. At Alma, he says he has been able to further explore this passion and develop it into a career.

“I have a lot of positive memories that involve the music department,” he says. “One of my favorite memories, though, has been doing the spring percussion concert every year. There’s a lot of energy that goes into that performance”

Sprague has tried to take advantage of the diverse musical experiences available at Alma. To make the most of his Alma experience, he joined the Pipe Band last fall.

“I really enjoy playing concerts with all the different groups at Alma: the symphony, choir and chorale, pipers, dance studio, band and percussion ensemble,” he says. “All of these experiences have been great.”

In December 2011, Alma College students, faculty and staff designed and hosted a conference in Washington, D.C., on the 500th anniversary of human rights advocacy. Earlier in the year, Alma College became one of the first undergraduate colleges in the United States to belong to the International Criminal Court Student Network, joining Duke University School of Law, The University of Cambridge and other prestigious institutions in a global community that connects students who share an interest in the ICC.
