Brayden Fischer may be new to Alma College’s campus, but this Ortonville freshman is no stranger to the bagpipes.
Brayden Fischer ’15
Since he began piping seven years ago, he has won multiple championships—including the Midwest, North American and Canadian piping championships—with the Flint Scottish Pipe Band.
“Playing with them has been a great learning experience,” he says. “It’s also given me the opportunity to socialize and network with people from a lot of different backgrounds.”
Besides the connections he has made, Fischer says that he loves a lot of other things about playing the bagpipes, including the fact that it’s a real conversation starter.
“It’s unique,” he says of piping. “When people find out that I play, they always say, ‘Wow! You play the bagpipes?!’ If my life allows it, I hope to always play.”
IAttracted to Alma College because of the opportunity to play with the Alma College Pipe Band, Fischer is enjoying the close-knit campus. He says he plans to double major in history and political science, with hopes of attending law school in the future.
