Anne Couch Gaydos '89 and her husband, Bob, announce the Aug. 20, 2009, birth of John Paul. He joins big brothers, Gregory, 4, and Matthew, 3.

Valerie Harris '01 finished dual master's degrees in School Counseling and Community Counseling in August 2009. She works in Lapeer and is deciding where to apply for Ph.D. programs in psychology.

Ben Washabaugh '97 and Lori Jackson Washabaugh '96 announce the Sept. 24, 2009, birth of Elijah Thomas joining sister Isabel, 6, and brothers Simon, 4, and Seth, 2.

Darryl Schimeck '82 was featured recently in the book, "Industry Achievers: A Collection of Inspirational Stories from Business and Industry Greats of Today and Yesterday" by Earl Heard and Brady Porche.

Eugene Pattison '56 lives at the Masonic Home in remission from cerebral lymphoma for two years.

Susan Hallitt Marsh '83 transitioned from Delphi back to General Motors as OE Service Sales Customer Manager for Thermal Power Train and Electronics Products.

Michael MacDonald '72 and his wife, Carolyn, announce the Sept. 22, 2009 birth of Kade Michael.

Carol Stephans Smith '57 thanks Pat and Dave Hubbard for hosting the Alma Tip of the Mitt gathering in June at the Pellston Airport Observation Deck.

Sally LaBeur Brandes '69 volunteers at different functions and organizations and her husband, Jim, is doing environmental engineering.

Ann Dale '63 volunteers at a local adult school teaching English as a second language.

 

Since 2003, twenty-seven Alma College students have won prestigious national fellowships, scholarships and awards, including 15 Fulbright fellowships and multiple Truman, Udall, and Gates-Cambridge scholarships.

Alma’s close faculty-student interaction provides numerous benefits such as the ability to do undergraduate research on a graduate level. Alma’s professors treat students more as peers welcoming student input and collaboration on faculty projects. When students are involved in research, faculty aggressively pursue publication of findings including students as co-authors.
