Alma College students willingly express their appreciation for the scholarships they receive. The following letter by Emily Ryder ’11 to Dorothy Swanson is shared by permission.

Dear Mrs. Swanson:
I am writing to thank you for your generous gift to Alma College that provided me with the Dorothy B. Swanson Endowed Scholarship. I am also writing to tell you about and thank you for the opportunities I have been provided because of people as kind as you.
I am pursuing music education, so that when I graduate I can become a band director. I am involved in Alpha Gamma Delta, Zeta Sigma, Relay for Life, the Kiltie Marching Band, the Alma Symphony Orchestra, the Alma College Chorale, and the Multicultural Black Student Union. Within each of these groups I have had extraordinary experiences and formed many lifelong friends. It is because of people as generous as you that students like me receive these amazing opportunities. Thank you so much for all of your help.
