Alumni Profile: Todd Friesner
Athletic participation was a major focus for Todd Friesner '79 when he was a student at Alma College.
He earned 12 varsity letters for the Scots, four each in football, swimming and baseball. He was a two-time all-MIAA selection in football and a first-team all-leaguer in baseball. He also was a co-captain for the swimming team and a member of a record-setting 400 freestyle relay team.
He received the 1979 LeRoy Block Scholar-Athlete Award and was awarded an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship.
“I believe strongly in the values of athletic participation,” says Friesner, who was inducted in the Alma College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000.
Friesner has demonstrated his commitment to athletic participation by pledging financial support for the renovation of the Hogan Physical Education Center, which includes updating locker rooms and increasing the space available for athletic training and rehabilitation.
“It’s important to have athletic facilities that are up to par with our competitors to help attract the caliber of student-athletes that the College is looking to attract, ” says Friesner.
Friesner, senior vice president at National City Bank in Cleveland, credits his Alma College experience for the successes he has enjoyed after college. The double major in history and business also was active in fraternity life and the history honor society.
“I’ve had a good professional career and stayed in touch with what’s happening at Alma,” says Friesner. “The College has done a lot for me and provided an education that has enabled me to provide for my family. I sincerely believe in Alma’s small school-personal attention approach to preparing students for their careers.”
