Michael Delp '71, instructor of creative writing at Interlochen Center for the Arts and author of The Last Good Water, Prose and Poetry 1988-2005, discusses water rights with April LaCroix '05, a member of Students United for Nature, at a forum organized by SUN.
Water rights in Michigan came under scrutiny from unique perspectives during an event sponsored by Alma College Students United for Nature (SUN) in March.
“Our Water: Policy, Poetry, & Public Trust” spotlighted Michigan water rights and the current controversy over Ice Mountain water bottling operations in Michigan using business, legal, scientific and poetic viewpoints.
James Olson, attorney of environmental law representing Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation, and 1971 Alma College graduate Michael Delp, instructor of creative writing at Interlochen Center for the Arts and author of The Last Good Water, Prose and Poetry 1988-2005, approached the subject from legal and poetic aspects.
SUN’s symposium was designed to increase awareness about current water issues, to gain a better understanding of the impact of current water decisions on the future, and to reflect on our State’s natural endowments.
Olson approached the subject from a legal aspect and Delp read poems about the nature of water from his latest book. Delp has six books published by Wayne State University Press.
