Mr. Lee Crooks ‘28 of Olympia, Washington, died October 20, 2001. He was predeceased by his brother, Harry M. Crooks Jr. ‘32, and his father, Harry Means Crooks Sr., the fourth president of Alma College.
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Forshar Crawford ‘32, formerly of Grand Haven, Michigan, died February 26, 2005, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mrs. Crawford was a past president of the Alma College Alumni Association and received the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1984. She was a Heritage Society member, and through her annuity with the College, the Arthur R. and Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Crawford Endowed Scholarship has been established.
Mrs. Freedom Burget Watson ‘33 formerly of Rochester, Michigan, died January 16, 2005, in Traverse City, Michigan. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Lou Watson Schuerger ‘60.
Mr. Lyle F. Bennett ‘35 formerly from Rockford, Michigan, died March 24, 2005, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Mrs. M. Virginia Church Washburn ‘38, formerly of Alma, Michigan, died March 9, 2005, in Marlette, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Washburn ‘37, and her brother, Fred Church ‘40. Mr. and Mrs. Washburn were members of the Alma College Heritage Society and provided for Alma in their estate plans.
Mr. Robert George Purdy ‘39 formerly of Birmingham, Michigan, died August 15, 2000, in Saginaw, Michigan. He was predeceased in death by his brothers, Gordon Purdy ‘37 and Thomas Purdy ‘41, and sister, Isabelle Purdy Duvendeck ‘45.
Rev. Barney D. Roepcke ‘40 formerly of Elk Rapids, Michigan, died February 22, 2005, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His survivors include his wife, Lois Lindsay Roepcke ‘41, and daughter, Karen Roepcke Kooistra ‘73. He was one of the founders and first president of Delta Gamma Tau fraternity, and was president of the Alumni Association in 1958-59. Rev. Roepcke served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids for many years.
Mr. Jay B. King ‘42 of Manchester, Michigan, died February 18, 2005, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His survivors include his wife, Wanda Hicks King ‘42.

Mr. Lawrence N. “Mac” McAuliffe ‘48 of Marshall, Michigan, died December 1, 2003. He was predeceased by his wife Helen Stuart McAuliffe ‘48.

Mrs. Esther Johnson Frandsen ‘49 of Grand Haven, Michigan, died February 9, 2005. Her survivors include her brother Trustee F. Martin Johnson and her nephew, Erick P. Johnson ‘87. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Philip H. Frandsen, and sister, Doris V. Johnson who supported Alma through her estate.
Mrs. Frandsen and her husband were Heritage Society members and included Alma College in their estate plans.

Dr. Michael Joseph Anuta, friend and supporter from Marinette, Wisconsin, and Menominee, Michigan, died September 9, 2004, at the age of 103. His wife, Mrs. Marianne Anuta, age 101, passed away November 18, 2004. Dr. and Mrs. Anuta included Alma College in their estate plans. He received an honorary Doctor of Law (LLD) degree from Alma in 1960. Among their survivors are great grandsons, Jared Fritz ‘01 and Justin Fritz ‘02.
Mrs. Jean Redman, spouse of the late Trustee Emeritus James E. Redman, died March 8, 2005, in Dallas, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Redman, formerly of Alma, supported Alma College.
