New Michigan Promise Scholarship Developments

The new Michigan Promise Scholarship is replacing the Michigan Merit Award or MEAP award. Michigan high school students who graduate starting in 2007 and score well on their high school assessments will receive $1,000 for their first year in college and $1,000 for their second year. Upon successfully completing their first two years of college, they will be awarded the remaining $2,000 from the State.  An additional feature of the Michigan Promise Scholarship is the ability for students who don't initially qualify for the program to earn the entire $4,000 through successful completion of two years of post-secondary education with a 2.5 GPA. This feature was not available with the Michigan Merit Award.

We are keeping up to date on the changes coming in the testing requirements and want you to know we will support you however we can. Alma College is a National ACT Testing site, so if you have questions about the testing environment or set-up, feel free to contact us.

The Alma College Percussion Ensemble performed at the prestigious Centrum Jazz Festival, an international festival in Port Townsend, Wash., in July 2007. Alma was the only college group invited to perform. “It’s a huge honor,” says faculty director Dave Zerbe. “You can’t apply to perform there; they seek you out.”
