How does Alma College handle AP credits?

Alma College accepts advanced placement credits as long as a student achieves the required score on the AP exam. Please refer to the Advanced Placement Options section of our academic catalogue for minimum scores on specific AP exams.

What about dual enrollment credits?

We also accept dual enrollment credits for those students enrolled in college courses while in high school. To learn whether or not specific courses will transfer to Alma and what Alma College classes these will represent, please contact the Registrar’s Office.

How does Alma College handle International Baccalaureate students?


Alma awards 32 credits to students who earn the IB Diploma. Alternatively, we award credit for individual exams at the Higher Level (HL) with a score of “5” or above.

What services do you offer for students with disabilities?


In compliance with Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, Alma College gladly provides reasonable accommodations that afford an equal opportunity for students with disabilities. Modifications and accommodations for students with disabilities include, but are not limited, to readers or note-takers, extra time allowances on exams, and individually-administered exams. It is the student’s responsibility to notify Alma’s Academic and Career Planning Office, provide the proper documentation, and request the appropriate accommodations. What are the national test dates for the ACT?

Can a student retake the ACT to improve his/her academic scholarship at Alma?

Yes, as long as he/she does so before March 1 or within three weeks of acceptance if he/she applies later than March 1.  We will accept results from national tests or from residual tests, which can be taken at Alma College Monday-Friday.  To schedule a residual test, students should call 1-800-321-ALMA.

Does Alma superscore the ACT?

No; Alma College will take a student’s highest composite score into consideration for admission and scholarships.

Does Alma do any GPA recalculations?

No, unless a school uses a scale other than the 4.0 scale.  In that case, we will recalculate GPA at the 4.0 scale.

A Truman Scholarship finalist and Center for Responsible Leadership Fellow, Drew has traveled to South Africa and China studying the HIV/AIDS crisis. The Bay City native intends to use his French minor and POE in International Health to improve AIDS care in Africa, hopefully as a physician with a global public health organization.
