Pre-Medicine

Pre-Medical Program at Alma College

Welcome to the front page for the Pre-Medical Program!

Pre-medical preparation is both challenging and exciting. I urge you to dive deeply into your studies and let yourself be a "geek" for science. You will find fellow students ready to do the same!

We have a strong history of success with graduates attending medical school. Our students report they feel well prepared for the rigor of medical school, both in terms of the information and skills they possess, as well as an attitude of cooperative and team learning.

There's a lot of information on the site, so cruise around using the links to the left.

Spring Term at Alma is a one-month immersion on a single academic topic that offers learning experiences not typically available during the more traditional 15-week fall and winter terms. For example, during Spring Term ‘07 students explored important cultural sites in China, worked to restore a Jewish Holocaust cemetery in Poland, analyzed ethic politics in Scotland, and studied medieval literature in London.

Student Profile

Sara Swanton
Graduation: 2009
Major: Exercise and Health Science

Sara Swanton didn’t realize she wanted to be a doctor when she came to Alma College, but her exercise and health science major cemented the decision.

“Alma was great because the EHS program was so unique that going into college undecided would still offer me enough options,” the Saginaw junior says. “When I have to take some of these same classes in medical school at a higher level I know I will already be ahead of other students because I have been introduced to the material.”
