Competition in World Markets
American companies have a growing need for employees with an international business perspective; employees whose breadth of knowledge can span language barriers and cultural differences. Alma College’s International Business Program offers foreign language training, courses in basic business disciplines and overseas study.
Modern Language Training
A major in International Business Administration requires third-year-level proficiency in French, German, Spanish or another language. Through Advanced Placement testing, you may receive college credit for high school language or you can complete all language course work at Alma. Students often complete a second major or minor in another language.
All modern language instruction at Alma is conducted in the language, not English. You develop language skills within the context of a particular subject such as literature, civilization, culture, history, political science or business.
Broad Business Background
You earn your major by taking a core of business administration courses and offerings in multinational management, international marketing, multinational financial management, international economics and global business strategy.
Overseas Study
Alma offers overseas travel in France, Germany, Mexico, Scotland, Spain and other locations. While studying overseas, you can earn college credit for course work in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities.
Alma’s Multinational Business Administration Seminar Spring Term has taken place in a variety of locations including Australia and China. Accompanied by a business administration faculty member, you visit international corporations and study management, marketing and financial practices.
An International Business Seminar can be combined with an overseas study program. At our international locations we work with institutions that teach language to foreign students.
Alma’s international study programs offer:
- Flexibility to participate for a month, a semester or a full year.
- Language study at your own level of proficiency.
- Reasonable prices with no stateside tuition or fees.
- Any Alma scholarship and financial aid are applied toward your overseas costs.
Successful Graduates
Because M.B.A. programs prefer to enroll students with actual business experience, many business graduates enter the job market first. Employers often pay their way through graduate school.
Alma business graduates have gone on to business schools at the universities of Chicago, Indiana and Michigan, Duke University and the American Graduate School of International Management.
Alma arranges on-campus interviews with corporate representatives and assists with on-site interviews elsewhere. Seniors can interview with Chicago employers through our In-City Interview Program and in Detroit with the Detroit Roundtable.
