Business Administration

Visit the Business Department Web Site

Business Administration offers three concentrations:

  • General Business Administration
  • Accounting
  • Marketing

All three integrate these basic business disciplines, with optiosn for specialization:

  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Management
  • Marketing
  • Statistics

While specialization does not occur until graduate school, you begin to develop expertise in a specific area by the end of your junior year. You may choose to concentrate in accounting or marketing.

Since Alma’s business administration faculty all have actual business experience in the areas they teach, you receive instruction based on first-hand knowledge. In the tradition of America’s best business schools:

  • You learn decision-making and problem-solving skills using the case study method.
  • A senior year seminar in business strategy exposes you to complex corporate marketing, managerial and financial problems.

Internships

You may plan a business-related internship to get on-the-job experience before leaving college. Practical experiences are available in accounting, general business management, finance and marketing. Not only do internships give you valuable professional training, they also let you make important personal contacts with potential employers — contacts that can result in job offers even before you graduate.

Graduate School

Because M.B.A. programs prefer to enroll students with actual business experience, many Alma business administration graduates enter the job market first. Companies often contribute to graduate school expenses for their employees.

Alma Business Administration grads have gone on to very prestigious business schools including:

  • Indiana University
  • Northwestern University
  • University of Chicago
  • University of Michigan
  • Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania
  • Michigan State University.
