Academic Opportunities

At Alma College, you can choose from more than 40 different majors, minors or pre-professional programs. You can combine them in any way, selecting two majors if you wish or designing your own unique major called a Program of Emphasis with your faculty advisor. If you are unsure what major you would like to pursue, click here for information on Major Exploration.

Academic opportunities at Alma go beyond a traditional set of classes and span across the various academic programs. You may consider:

  • The Honors Program, through which you can pursue membership in Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's preeminent honor society;
  • Presenting independent research at our annual campus-wide Honors Day;

Explore these opportunities at your leisure; when you arrange visits to campus, ask to speak with faculty about the best ways to weave them into your educational path. We are excited about your interest in Alma and the academic achievements that await you!

To contact the Admissions Office, call 1-800-321-ALMA or email admissions@alma.edu.

The Corporation for National and Community Service named Alma College to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in both 2008 and 2009 for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth. The Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement.

Spring Term courses offer students opportunities to break out of the “Alma Bubble.” Off-campus study, especially in a foreign country, shows you how you relate to the rest of the world and how the rest of the world views American people, politics and policies. You can then integrate your real world experiences into your academic programs and your future career.
