How Ambassadors Help

Alumni Ambassadors assist with recruitment in many ways:

Contacting Students and Parents

Students and their parents can specifically request to hear from an alumnus, or an admissions rep might feel a particular student would benefit from connecting with you.  Either way, we provide you with contact and background information - then you reach out, usually via email.

Referring Students

Ambassadors are always looking for potential Alma students!  If you know students who would make great Scots, you can directly refer them to the Admissions Office or provide them with College-provided recruitment materials so they can take the initial step themselves.

Publicizing College Fairs

Admissions representative attend college fairs around Michigan and other states, speaking with students and their families.  Meeting lots of people means lots of potential students, so Ambassadors use College-provided posters to publicize Alma's presence at fairs in their areas.

Assisting with Events

If there's an admissions rep who needs a hand at a college fair, an on-campus event that would benefit from alumni involvement or a special event off campus, Ambassadors provide that extra assistance.

Spring Term at Alma is a one-month immersion on a single academic topic that offers learning experiences not typically available during the more traditional 15-week fall and winter terms. For example, during Spring Term '09, students toured cultural sites in Peru, studied alternative energy in Sweden, analyzed theatre and dance in London, and examined Native American culture at the Crazy Horse Memorial in South Dakota.

Alma’s off-campus study programs do more than place students in exciting locales to meet interesting people; they also create new opportunities for personal growth and skill development. One of the best ways to learn about other societies and cultures is to study and travel in international settings. You do not always have to know a foreign language.
