We at the ACWC are committed to providing all writers at Alma College with quality, collaborative, one-on-one writing services. We follow practices that align with current writing center and composition theory, such as the idea that writing is socially constructed, process-oriented, and rhetorically situated. Our tutors are trained to work collaboratively with writers in any part of the writing process, from brainstorming and drafting to final editing. We do not promise that those who visit our center will leave with perfect writing; rather our goal is to work toward developing better writers.

What We Do

We at the Writing Center believe that writing is neither an isolated endeavor, nor is it something that just comes naturally. Good writing comes from practice, and this practice is most effective when done with others. Research shows that working with peers to create stronger writing ultimately creates stronger writers—our ultimate goal. No project is too small or too large, and no question is too trivial. We are here to work with you to make you a stronger writer

Alma’s off-campus study programs do more than place students in exciting locales to meet interesting people; they also create new opportunities for personal growth and skill development. One of the best ways to learn about other societies and cultures is to study and travel in international settings. You do not always have to know a foreign language.
