Light passing through a prism

Converting waste vegetable oil to biodiesel, growing muscle tissue, creating fragrances and flavors, analyzing animal behavior—our students have done it. So can you!

Before the start of fall term, 30 incoming Alma College students are invited to participate in an extraordinary summer research opportunity.

Alma has been home to summer institutes in both the arts and sciences and technology for many years. This experience is sure to be unlike anything you’ve had the opportunity to do in high school.

Entering Research

During this opportunity, you will work alongside faculty and their undergraduate research assistants, who will mentor you on exciting ongoing research. We hope you enjoy this early “hands-on” college-level experience in the science and math community.

2013 Research Opportunity

July 6–13, 2013: Spend seven days with science! This experience also includes a seminar speaker, canoeing, and a picnic.

Students conducting research side-by-side with faculty has been an Alma College legacy for generations. Alma students team up with faculty on scholarly research or to collaborate on creative or performing arts projects. An annual Honors Day features student presentations, performances and exhibits. Many students present such work at regional, national and international meetings.

Jacob Poliskey

Jacob Poliskey
Graduation: 2014
Major: Biochemistry

Jacob Poliskey’s experience at Alma College has helped him cross a few adventurous items off his bucket list, including immersing himself in another culture thanks to a Spring Term trip to Peru.

“I got to see Machu Picchu, explore the Incan Ruins in the outside of Cusco, learn more Spanish, and climb an 80-foot rock edifice,” he says. “I also became really good friends with a few people I didn’t know well before the trip.”
