Recall/Request an Item

Recall/hold policy

Recalled items are those that have been requested by another library user. Books and CDs may be recalled after 3 weeks (the minimum loan period).

  • Items may be recalled if the patron has had the item for longer than the minimal loan period, no matter what type of patron has the item.
  • Items may be recalled from faculty patrons.
  • A hold may be placed on an item that someone else has checked out. When the item is returned, it will be kept at the Circulation Desk and the person who has placed the hold on it will be notified to come in and check it out.
  • Items that have been recalled, or that have holds placed on them, may not be renewed.

How to place a hold or recall on an item

You can recall, or place a hold on, an item from the library’s online catalog, or by asking someone at the Circulation desk to help you (989-463-7229). To place an online hold, you must find the item in the library catalog and click on the “request” button at the top of the page. (Only items that are checked out may have holds or recalls placed on them.)
