About the Library / Services

The Alma College Library houses a main collection of over 284,000 volumes and 1,500 periodical titles. It is open 103 hours per week during the Academic Year. On February 2, 1996, Alma College library concluded almost ten months of planning, moving and constructing with the dedication of the new Colina wing. A gift from John and Nancy Colina in 1993 made the wing possible. In Fall 2006, the library completed a renovation project, the highlights of which include additional small group study rooms and the M.J.J. Smith Room — a collaborative teaching and learning space, as well as the Highland Java cafe.

Tyler Martinez

Tyler Martinez
Graduation: 2008
Major: Economics and Philosophy

“Economics has everything to do with, well … everything!”

These are the words of Tyler Martinez, a philosophy and economics alumnus, who knew early on that money makes the world go ’round.

“Robert Cunningham put economics into perspective for me,” says Martinez, who graduated in 2008. “Now I find it hard to leave economic terms out of my daily conversations with family and friends.”
